About Us
Richard Haney has been providing counselling, hypnotherapy, and mediation services since 1979. Our private practice opened in Ottawa in 1983. For more than 30 years, Richard has been providing professional counselling and mediation services to clients in Ottawa and the surrounding areas. Ottawa Counselling Services has two convenient locations to better serve clients across the region. Our two locations are conveniently located on Bank St., in Old Ottawa South, and near Hunt Club West and Highway # 416, in Nepean. Both locations are warm, calming, and inviting settings to better facilitate and enhance healing, recovery, and empowerment for our clients.
We offer our counselling and mediation services to clients throughout the Ottawa-Gatineau region, including Gatineau, Nepean, Kanata, Barrhaven, Manotick, Orleans, Carleton Place, and Almonte. We are able to offer some professional counselling services to clients throughout Ontario, Canada, and around the world, by phone, over the internet, or by fax. Richard is available at the Bank Street office on Mondays from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Richard is available at the Nepean office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday until 3 p.m.

Richard has a Ph.D. in Counselling Therapy, with a double major in Counselling and Mediation, earned in 1991. He also has a Master’s Degree in Counselling, earned in 1981 from Antioch University at Harvard University. Richard is trained in Jungian Analytic Counselling and Ericksonian Hypnosis. He has further training in Regression Hypnotherapy and is familiar with a variety of modalities and hypnotherapy techniques. Richard has keen knowledge of the Ontario Courts and has successfully completed more than 2,000 comprehensive mediations in his professional career.

Professional Counselling
Richard earned his Ph.D. in Counselling Therapy (with a double major in Counselling and Mediation) in 1991. He had previously earned his Master’s Degree in Counselling from Antioch University at Harvard University in 1981.

Comprehensive Global Family Mediation
Richard’s experience spans the social services, business, government and education. He has worked in the field of Counselling for 35 years and in private practice as a Counsellor and as a Comprehensive Family Mediator – Arbitrator for the past 20 years. Richard has successfully completed over 2,000 comprehensive mediations.

Family Financial Mediation
In the last two decades Richard has acted on his own behalf in the Ontario Courts on almost all of the issues of family law and thus he has a keen sense and knowledge of the dynamics of the legal system and also of the thoughts and feelings of the clientele in relation to separation and divorce.
