Not everyone is used to having “me” time. Most of us are constantly dialed in thanks to the internet, data plans, and work. And, if you have kids, a busy job, an active social life, or even live with others, it’s hard to get any time alone. For some, having time to yourself may even feel strange or scary, but it’s incredibly important and essential for your mental health. Time alone gives you the space you need to fully unwind, deal with any internal struggles, and to grow and discover more about yourself. When you’re running around after your kids or pleasing your work colleagues and your spouse, you can miss out on all the things you really like to do. Enjoying time spent with yourself can allow you to catch up on the things that make you feel good — the things you no longer have time for. It’s a time where you can really focus on what you want to do instead of pleasing others.

One way to take some time with yourself is to start a hobby. Activities like painting, knitting, and reading are perfect for enjoying some alone time while keeping your mind active. It can also help you remember to create personal time by setting aside 30 minutes a day for some personal meditation to help you unwind and relax. Even setting just 15 minutes a day to be alone at a coffee shop or at the park can greatly improve your mood and make you feel happier.
